Palmerston North’s favourite landmark, He Ara Kotahi bridge, looks even more spectacular now that the Ditmer Drive Plaza lights have been installed. Large LED trees combine with carefully landscaped garden lighting to create a welcoming plaza area that combines seating and meeting places where crowds regularly draw to enjoy the atmosphere. The area compliments the bridge perfectly and is a credit the the creative talents of Venky Kannan, fifth : season’s principal lighting designer.
The history of the site, where a huge battle occurred in the 1820s, has been respected in all aspects of the lighting design. When lit, the plaza and the bridge take on a new dimension which is attracting many people to enjoy the plaza, the bridge and the walkway.
Evenings now see the once drab Foxton tower transform into a multi-coloured glowing beacon of light. The lights have already enhanced the town's profile, attracted tourists and created a focal point for people in the centre of town.
fifth : season worked alongside The Rotary Club of Foxton, the Foxton Community Board, Horowhenua District Council, and Rotary Club of Awapuni, to light-up the iconic water tower.
The LED lighting rig is set for a one hour cycle of changing colour displays, turning the industrial concrete water tower to bright multicoloured lights. It is programmable for special days and seasons such as Christmas and St Patricks day.
May 2019 saw the opening of He Ara Kotahi, Palmerston North’s new pedestrian and cycle bridge that links Linton, Massey University and the city.
fifth : season design has created a lighting scheme that embeds the lights within the structure of the bridge, bringing illumination without dominating lighting fixtures. The fins are now a glowing feature at night, highlighting their integral part of the bridge's karaka tree-inspired design.
The lighting of the fins is complemented with illuminated handrails, and under-lighting designed to create the illusion of the bridge floating above the Manawatu River.
An environmentally friendly ‘star path’ that lights up at night using thousands of luminous spheres runs along the river path from the bridge. The zero-energy technique uses tiny chips that absorb sunlight during the day and glow in the dark.
The 42nd Street Eatery is a showcase of industrial lighting that gives this inner city meeting place instant atmosphere. Lighting, design and art work combine to create an international feel in a food court that seats more than 200 people.
The fifth : season lighting scheme helps to create different spaces within the eatery as well as make food preparation and serving safe and enjoyable for both staff and patrons.
Palmerston North’s Broadway Avenue has been going through a lighting metamorphosis over the last 24 months. fifth : season design have been a proud partner in these developments. As well as designing the lighting for Broadway itself, they have designed lighting schemes for the Regent Arcade and Berryman’s Lane, encouraging people to explore the CBD by foot.

The rare opportunity to light-up Savitri Bhavan was both a privilege and an honour. fifth:season design collaborated with Mr Helmut Schmidt, project architect, to fulfill a brief that required calm ambience alongside focal highlighting in this very special location. LED lights were placed with different beam angles, colour temperatures and fixture sizes to highlight various elements in this beautifully designed building.
The Pallazzio Hotel sets the bench mark for luxury and style. fifth:season design has seamlessly integrated a beautiful lighting scheme that brings this destination to life in a new way. Each space has been custom designed to enhance ambiance and functionality.
Following a thorough light audit to assess energy consumption and efficiently, fifth : season design came up with a new economic lighting scheme that catered to the diverse requirements of this central city hub for the youth of Palmerston North. Light levels needed to be optimal in reading and working areas but soft and asmophereric in common spaces. Feature light fittings have been selected and installed alongside intergrated LED fititngs to create a stunning result.

Custom lighting sets Hablis Hotel apart as a destination with a difference. All the lights were custom-designed and made for the Hablis Hotel; from the luminaires in the 120 business suites, through to the Irish Bar and the roof top restaurant. the 11 by 4 metre chandelier is spectacular and adds grandeur to the lobby.
The sophisticated lighting scheme in the GR Residence seamlessly integrates the interior of the house with the outdoors, making the most of the beautiful gardens surrounding the home. Each aspect of the design has been carefully planned to create special areas where people can meet, while maintaining good light levels in task focused areas. Tranquility was the brief, in a home that embraces light, both inside and out.
The City of Napier was rebuilt from the ground up following the devastating 1931 earthquake and fire. Today, thousands of people visit to enjoy the unique architecture that now makes Napier the Art Deco capital of the world. Tennyson Street in Napier’s CBD has many beautiful Art Deco facades that can now be enjoyed at night as well as in the day. fifth : season design has provided lighting schemes for many of the buildings so they can be enjoyed 24:7, making Napier a spectacular place to visit all hours of the day and night.
Napier is alive with light, giving their many visitors a new appreciation of the unique 1930’s architecture, particularly the beautifully designed Art Deco Trust Building. fifth:season design embraced the opportunity to work with the Napier City Council to design a custom scheme for this fabulous piece of Art Deco history.
