Our expertise

We integrate architecture, human experience, and living systems—so light is never only a fixture, but a coordinated layer of the project.

This is achieved through

Architectural
lighting

Light integrated with form, material, and sightlines—so volume reads clearly from daylight through evening.

Human-centric
lighting

Brightness, color quality, and glare shaped around how people actually move, focus, and rest in the space.

Bio-centric
lighting

Spectrum and timing aligned with circadian rhythm—supporting energy by day and calmer recovery after dark.

Design philosophy

Soulful

Light with feeling — warmth, depth, and atmosphere so spaces feel inhabited, not merely illuminated.

Optimal

The right amount, angle, and spectrum: comfort and clarity without excess — precise and efficient.

Unobtrusive

Fittings and glare recede; architecture and life stay in focus. The effect is felt before the source is seen.

Lighting design

One discipline from first studies through commissioning — visualization, documentation, and site tuning together.

In their words

Palmerston North City Council has employed Fifth Season Design to design and assist us in developing a lighting precinct along the Manawatu River. Fifth Season have delivered some of the City’s most loved night-time spaces — particular the lighting design on our new He Ara Kotahi Bridge. Fifth Season have helped the Council bring a sophisticated, “big city feel” to our growing, metropolitan city of Palmerston North.

Fifth Season Design provided a very efficient service that has been delivered with ease. Their creative solution-based approach has given us a comprehensive and exciting design for our development.

I have worked with Venky for a number of years on projects both here in New Zealand and internationally. Great designer and great outcomes. One would have to go a long way to find someone with a better understanding of light & lighting design.

What a pleasure it was to collaborate with Venky from Fifth Season Lighting Design. He brings an unparalleled knowledge of lighting that helped add a whole new level of creativity and drama to my project. Working with Venky was indeed a pleasure, one marked by professionalism, energy, integrity and fun.

Light is both science and an art, and it’s a real skill to blend the two as successfully as Venky does. Venky works hard to first understand the architecture, brief, and budget before delivering truly transformational lighting design that is quite simply, thoughtful and beautiful.
